1. All current R.NCS.Ts need to apply for grandfather status with ABEM by December 31, 2011. There is an administrative fee for processing the request. If accepted, the technologist is given the credentials of CNCT.
ABEM’s acceptance automatically enrolls the technologist into ABEM’s technologist maintenance of certification program (TMOCP). The TMOCP will be a 5-year program.
Non-time-limited R.NCS.T Credentials: The TMOCP will require CEUs only. You will not need to retake the ABEM CNCT certification examination or maintenance of certification examination.
The online ABEM technologist directory will list non-time-limited technologists as CNCT*, indicating these technologists are grandfathered and participate in the CEU portion of the TMOCP, but are not required to take the TMOCP examination. Grandfathered technologists may voluntarily take the ABEM CNCT certification examination or the TMOCP examination (when available), and participate fully in the maintenance program. The * then would be removed from the listing in the technologist directory. Technologists do not need to display the * when listing their credentials; it is used for clarification in the ABEM directory listing only.
Time-limited R.NCS.T Credentials: Your CNCT credentials will expire at the same time your R.NCS.T credentials would have expired. If the TMOCP examination is not yet available, the R.NCS.T credentials will be extended.
2. Technologists who received R.NCS.T credentials but were notified by AAET that they did not pass the R.NCS.T examination need to apply for grandfather status by December 31, 2011. An administrative fee for processing will be assessed.
If the grandfather request is accepted, the technologist is enrolled in the TMOCP and may use the CNCT credentials. The technologist needs to complete 30 CEUs and pass the ABEM CNCT certification examination on or before 2013 to continue using the CNCT credentials. If the technologist fails the examination, he or she will no longer be able to use the CNCT credentials.
The online ABEM technologist directory will list these technologists as CNCT† indicating that these technologists are grandfathered, are required to pass the ABEM CNCT certification examination by December 31, 2013, and required to participate fully in the TMOCP to maintain their certification. Once the exam is passed, the † would be removed from the online directory listing. Technologists do not need to display the † when listing their credentials; it is used for clarification in the ABEM directory listing only.
