Physicians

Diplomate status of the ABEM is awarded to individuals who have passed the ABEM exam and completed an ACGME or RCPSC approved medical special specialty graduate-training program. Certificate of Recognition holders have been certified by a Board of Neurology or Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation outside of the United States or Canada and achieved similar training and independent experience to United States physicians.

ABEM certificates issued before 1994 are non-time limited. ABEM certificates issued in 1994 and after are time-limited to 10 years. Diplomates with time-limited certificates must participate in the Maintenance of Certification Program (MOCP) and pass the MOCP examination to extend their Diplomate status.

Technologists

The Certified Nerve Conduction Technologist (CNCT) credential is awarded to individuals who have achieved specialized knowledge, skills, and training in conducting nerve conduction studies. A CNCT-certified technologist has passed the CNCT certification examination. These individuals must participate fully in the Technologist Maintenance of Certification Program (TMOCP) to extend their certification beyond the initial 5-year certification cycle.
